چکیده
osting by E Abstract Background and objectives: Interferon-a (IFN-a), a cytokine with both antiviral and immune-regulatory functions, was suggested as a useful toolwhich can evaluate current systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) disease activity and identify patientswhoare at risk of future disease flares. In the current study, serum IFN-a levels and associated demographic, and serological features in Egyptian SLE patients and their first degree relatives (FDRs) in comparison to unrelated healthy controls (UHCs) were examined, in order to identify individuals at the greatest risk for clinical illness.

Clinical and serological manifestations associated with interferon-α levels in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus
OBJECTIVE To determine the serum levels of interferon alpha in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus patients, their first-degree relatives and healthy controls and to evaluate the associations between serum interferon alpha and disease activity, laboratory findings and treatment features. METHODS We screened consecutive childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus patients in a longit...
متن کاملThree cases of systemic lupus erythematosus and review of the mechanisms concerning treatment with intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG).
The systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder with a broad array of clinical signs. In this research, we aimed to use intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) called intacglobin as monotherapy to manage an SLE in three patients. Laboratory investigations for SLE diagnosis were done, including the detection of anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) and SLE confirmation by detecting high tite...
متن کاملANTINEUTROPHIL CY TOPLASMIC AUTOANTIBODIES IN SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS
Antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies (ANCA) were first described in patients with necrotizing glomerulonephritis. The original observation passed unnoticed until an association was made between ANCA and active Wegener's granulomatosis. Since then, tremendous progress has been made in elucidating the association between ANCA subtypes and clinicopathologic syndromes, and the potential p...
متن کاملSerum alpha–actinin antibody status in systemic lupus erythematosus and its potential in the diagnosis of lupus nephritis
Background: In lupus nephritis (LN), deposition of pathogenic autoantibodies in the glomeruli is mediated via cross-reactivity with alpha-actinin. Association of serum alpha-actinin antibody (AαA) with LN has been shown in a few studies but the results are controversial. Methods: Eighty patients into entered the study. The diagnosis of SLE was confirmed according to the American College of Rheu...
متن کاملA study of anti-poly (ADP-ribose) antibodies and an anti-DNA antibody idiotype and other immunological abnormalities in lupus family members.
The genetic background of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has been reexamined in a study of the serum of 31 lupus patients and 80 asymptomatic first degree relatives by measuring a common, cross reacting anti-DNA antibody idiotype designated 134, antibodies to poly(ADP-ribose), serum C3, circulating immune complexes, and antinuclear antibodies (ANA). Over 30% of the relatives had raised 134 ...
